Summer Garden Hints
Lawns
- Remember to water!
- Leave some length on your lawns (about 50mm) as this will help stop the grass from getting scorched by the sun and help against general wear and tear
- Continue your fertilizing program. The best time to add fertilizer is just before rain is expected or on a cloudy day
Gardens (general)
- Hopefully, your plants will be growing well. Consider applying a mulch to retain the moisture and suppress weed growth (see note below)
- Spray your roses for aphids and have a careful look for any signs of mildew
- Prune and remove any dead foliage to allow light and air through to encourage new growth
Low Allergy Garden
- Try and use bird or insect pollinated plants, such as clematis or azalea’s rather than wind pollinated ones
- Lawns can also produce wind borne pollen so try mowing while there is still dew on the lawn
- Similarly, weeds can produce airborne pollen so mulching helps or better still, get us to look after your garden through our maintenance program to keep those weeds at bay
Features
When planning a BBQ area or swimming pool, remember to include lighting to help with the ambience of the area. Use lights to emphasise changes in levels that may be dangerous or to highlight particular garden specimens. We design and install lights using the ‘Hunza’ range: check out the website http://www.lightingpacific.co.nz/ for more details and contact us for a no obligation quote.
Planning
This is crucial if you want to establish a successful garden. We have our own ‘in-house’ designer who works with a CAD type computer software package called ‘Vectorworks’. Our designer will take careful note of the situation and your requirements to produce a full colour working plan complete with 3D views for you.
Have a great summer from everyone at Property Solutions.
